Nameless
A downloadable game for Windows
Deserted, uninhabited, and alone. Nameless is a short narrative experience with light puzzle & platforming elements. Based on Nanashi Mumei's "mumei". Embark on a journey to learn about loneliness, human connection, and self discovery as a timeless and perpetual being who wanders an empty world.
I gave myself only a window of 1 month to complete this entire project, and this is the end result! I hope you enjoy~ I may go for larger projects in the future, but this is all the time I could afford to spend on a game right now.
Please refer to the notes below before playing:
- This game uses an autosave system. Use the main menu settings to clear game progress. (ver 1.0.2+)
- Use the interact key to advance cutscenes (denoted with a play button icon)
- Displays other than 16:9 may have some visual bugs, but nothing that should impact gameplay at all.
- Controllers work fine, they just lack menu functionality.
- If you are experiencing lower framerates or stutters, you may experience issues with some of the game's mechanics (probably physics related stuff like jumping/moving objects). I can't guarantee the game will function as intended if your framerates are lower than 60 (The higher your framerate, the less likely you are to run into issues. No issues were reported at framerates 120 and higher).
One of the bugs from lower than ideal framerate is the ability to scale the same wall which can lead to serious issues that break the game.
It's not difficult to run, but it may cause issues on lower spec hardware or if streaming causes your framerate to drop. You can turn on the in-game FPS counter to see how it's performing.
- If you get an "unknown app" prompt, this is a false positive from one of the files within the project. It's completely safe! Feel free to scan if you're unsure though.
Art, animation, sound design, music, writing, and programming were all done by me. Thank you to my wonderful playtesters for helping me throughout development. π

Hi! I'm a writer for GameRant and wanted to let you know that I've included Nameless in an article on the best platform games on itch. I've included the article link if you wanted to give it a read, or you can find it on my twitter @Nyah_Payne. Had a blast playing! Your game introduced me to the 'Mumei' music video, but it was also an outstanding game in its own right. Reminded me of a lot of some of my favourites. https://gamerant.com/itchio-best-platforming-games/
Hey Nyah, thank you so much! ππ I read the article, and it's very well done and extremely flattering. I'm so glad you enjoyed the game, and appreciate the inclusion!~
Why i can't continue when appear "whisper or something". I even download this game and reinstall, but the result is still same. I get lagged when that scene appear
I'm sorry you're having trouble progressing, please make sure to check the notes in the description! You should be able to simply hit the interact key to continue cutscene dialogue. If you can't, make sure you hit the FPS requirement listed in the notes.
Amazing game and great job. It looks beautiful, and from even the simplest things you can tell at a glance that a lot of passion and effort was put into it. Most of all, the message and feelings it conveys are something that truly sticks with you and I don't think you can achieve something better than make a game people will remember. And once you play through this, you WILL remember it.
Thank you for the lovely comment! I'm really happy people are connecting with the game, I'm glad with how it all came together!~ π₯°π
I just finished the game and am in the process of editing the video but I couldn't wait. This game spoke to me on a personal level. Having the issues I do, because of past trauma, gave the game a whole new meaning. The inner voice critiquing every move making you second guess yourself, the voice of reason that somehow cuts through the darkness and helps bring you above water again. In the beginning, I thought it was somehow a love story and it was in a way. but not the way I expected, nor anyone probably expected, for that matter. The self-doubt that gnaws at you when you repeat the same things over and over again looking for the one thing that ever mattered not realizing it yourself. Nameless but not forgotten. as we all will be as time passes. absolutely beautiful message. The artwork is stunning as well. The time and dedication put into this game is well worth it considering the outcome and feedback gotten just in the last few days alone. Amazing.
EDIT* youtube is hella stupid and i got a copywrite strike for the music so i had to go back and mute it
EDIT** reuploaded it and they still want to copyright me but heres the video
EDIT*** 54 VIEWS HOLY CRAP YOU GUYS THX SO MUCH
Thank you so much for the lovely review!~ ππ I'm happy this game spoke to you on that level, and I really appreciate you sharing that! π₯°
Thank you for the wonderful work!
The message and the puzzle alltogeter made an amazing game.
Many people saw mumei play this game in clip translated in Korean and many are playing by themselves.
Thanks again for Your positive influence and wonderful game.
I appreciate that so much! ππ Thank you for the comment~
Uhhh Unskipable Cutscenes Nooooo
What a great holo-live fan game!
The intro message drew me in and each message left a deep impression on me.
The main focus is on the world of "mumei", but I was very moved when "A New Start" was played at the end of the adventure.
Thank you very much for your wonderful work!
Thank you so much for playing! Appreciate the video too~ ππ
This is a great game. I really like this game οΌ
Thank you for your productionοΌ
The puzzles in the game are very interesting and the plot is very touching.
If there are any updates in the future, I suggest adding an animation with a handheld lantern.
Thank you, I appreciate it! π
It's something I thought about adding but was too low on my list of priorities! If I return to polish/finalize things for this project, I may add it. ^ ^ π
i just finished the game, that was absolutely amazing and well done game. I really enjoyes playing it and it was emotional it's make me want to cry.
Thank you for making this wonderful game.
Thank you so much for playing!~ π₯°π
Bravo, Jynx and crew. This was really well done - a fitting tribute and well done extension to the source material! Maybe a few more checkpoints, but for the length and nature of the game that sort of thing was easily ignorable.
Also, if you ever decide/get permission to release that music box cover of mumei I would love it, if not the full ost. Really good job of mixing the motifs of the song into the various chapters.
Thank you so much! π₯°π
All the music was done by me, so I'm free to release it! I may post it here as a downloadable zip containing the game's main tracks. π
What a beautiful game.
I loved the visuals and the storytelling. The platforming got increasingly challenging.
There were platforming parts that got a bit frustrating for me, but I managed to persevere and get past them. The puzzles were nice.
Great game!
Thank you for playing and giving feedback, David! Glad you had a positive experience with the game~ ππ
Oh hi, thanks for making this game. I really like the music, i listened to it a lot of times, and this game has the same vibe as the clip.
Glad you enjoyed it! ^ ^ π
I truly truly love the game, just wish it have an auto save in the middle of the stage too. Cos been stuck on the same stage after falling way too many times (cos skill issue fr). But other than that I gotta give it a 10/10
Thank you so much for making this game!!
Thank you for playing, Iβm glad you enjoyed it! π
I wish I had time to put in a check pointing system as well. Itβs something I may consider adding later down the road for the sake of completing the design. For sure something if I do make a game that requires it in the future!
We moomin >:D
It looks beautiful I will play it in my vacation β€οΈ
I will be playing this live tomorrow 11/20 around 630-7 PM EST =D.
Thank you so much! Have a great stream π₯°π
Short but bittersweet story.
I like this platforming.
Thank you for playing! ^ ^ π
This is a great fan game, DEV. AMAZING!!!
Mumei will be proud of this game with relaxing BGM, deep meaning story and intereting mechanics of the game (especially the pull or push thing in this game to keep going to the next level). I already finished it :-D. Here is my 5 minutes+ gameplay. Enjoy~ "We've got all the time in the world" is my favorite sentence in this game. (Sorry for bad audio in the beginning of the game, though. Hehehe)
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it ππ Thank you for the review & video!~
Your welcome, DEV :-D
Any walkthrough out yet? I'm stuck here for like 2 or 3 hours with no clues on how to solve the puzzle.
same
2 pillars and 2 switches? Place stone on the right switch and move to the right (there platform), jump down. There you'll understand what to do next

Lovely game! It's amazing that you managed to make all of it in just a month!
Loved the puzzle design (even if I got stuck at a couple because of skill issue), and the platforming controls felt really good. I'll be looking forward to your future projects! :)
Thank you so much for playing!~ ππ₯°
amazing
Thank you for making this. :)
Thank you for playing!~ ππ
When restarting the level during the flooding segment, the siren persisted.
Some of the puzzle solutions were not intuitive, but that was probably a skill issue on my part (or the fact that I have an old monitor locked to 60 fps, and maybe that affected my gameplay somewhat).
Other than that, this is quite a beautiful fan game and I enjoyed the visuals and the dialogue very much.
Yeah, I wish I had more time to fix framerate issues and the like. I could always use more time to keep improving on things. But I'm glad you otherwise had a mostly enjoyable experience!
And I'm glad to have played it, I liked it a lot. If you'll end up making more, I'll be looking forward to it.
I'm stuck on the page with the flashing play button at the bottom. I've pressed every key on my keyboard and all of my mouse buttons.
tldr: help, i'm dumb
The interact key (E by default)
Thank you. :)
I read until the end of the game's description, and got absolute whiplash from the fact that this is a Hololive fan game!
Absolutely amazing, I loved this so much!
The puzzles were fun and clever; the sound design enhances the overall tone and story; the story itself was beautifully written and got me crying at the end.
Thank you Jynx and everyone who helped bring this project to fruition, it's awe inspiring, 10/10, thank you so much for bringing this into our lives!
(Took a little under an hour to beat, perfect for streaming!)
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed the game. ππ
what font is used for the text in the game?
It's called "Baby Doll"! You can find it on dafont
i think you forgot to add a platform to the download link, it can't be installed via the itch app
Thank you, fixed!
Got stuck at the part where you jump from two ladders because it was impossible to do the jump, sad.
Maybe having 300 FPS is causing issues or its extremely precise.
(or i just have a skill issue im not sure)
its a puzzle u have to drag the box towards the edge
skill issue
